Things to Read on the Train…

I inherited my love of trains from my father, who has written a series of historical books about the Soo Line Railroad. Perhaps someday I’ll take a slow train ride north and west through the mountains—from Minneapolis to the very end of the line. Here are some of the favorite books I would want to have along:

David Almond: Skellig and Kit’s Wilderness

Andrea Barrett: Ship Fever

Emma Bull: War for the Oaks

A.S. Byatt: The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye

Neil Gaiman: Midsummer Night’s Dream and American Gods

Kelly Link: Magic for Beginners

Patricia McKillip: Song for the Basilisk

Lorrie Moore: Birds of America

Philip Pullman: The Golden Compass

Joann Sfar: The Rabbi’s Cat

Jeff VanderMeer: Veniss Underground
