After spending my summer vacation in a flood zone, I had occasion last week to go to Houston, where there isn’t any flooding, but instead a historic drought.
I must have brought the rain gods with me, because it rained for four hours on Sunday, soaking the parched ground. We visited a park near Sam Houston National Forest. The lakes were low, but still glistening with water and light.
After a picnic near the water, we met an old man with a bag of raw peanuts, and he showed us how to feed the squirrels.
